Right To Redemption
R2R believes, and appeals to the United Nations Human Rights Council to recognize, that the damnation of a human being of any age to spend the rest of his or her life in prison without even the possibility of a parole hearing review is a negation of the distinctly human capacity for redemption, a denial of the individual's core humanity, and a violation of an inalienable human right.
R2R will tout the unsung wonders of the many men and women sentenced to life without parole, who have convicted themselves to a life of sacrifice and service and have become agents of restoration in the communities they have wounded. To afford erred souls the opportunity to continue righting themselves through serving humanity, instead of just serving time, is a key step in humanity's march toward a more livable world.
Therefore, R2R calls on forces of goodwill everywhere to come together, consolidate, and champion the human right to redemption and dignity in any case or circumstance; to advance the idea of forgiveness for those deemed worthy; and to help the criminal justice system and the public see the rightness of embracing the prospect of redemption over unceasing retribution.
R2R is a crusade to end the sentencing of human beings to life in prison without the possibility of parole, or death by incarceration. R2R aims to effect the passing of a retroactive "Parole Eligibility for Lifers Bill" to bring sentencing practices toward felony cases in harmony with the evolving standards of decency of the Global Community.
